| Program Description |
|
This course provides an opportunity to explore the education, health, criminal justice and welfare systems in the Dominican Republic as well as an opportunity to participate in the rich history and culture of this Caribbean nation. The two-week field experience in the Dominican Republic includes visits to Santo Domingo, Santiago, Costanza, Altos de Chavon, and the Southern areas of the Dominican Republic.

| Academic Focus of Program |
|
This three-credit course is designed to provide an introduction to the analysis of social policies in the Dominican Republic through an understanding of the Socio-cultural/political history of the Dominican Republic and includes a two-week field experience. It will provide an opportunity for the comparison of U.S (or other country of origin/interest of the student) and DR systems of government in promoting the socioeconomic development for the well being of the populace. The required classroom hours will also be available on-line for those who are unable to attend class sessions prior to and after the field experience.

Tuition, room and all meals, interpreters, in-country transportation and all scheduled field visits.

| Student Life |
|
Students can look forward to visiting museums and the music conservatory as well as take part in the colonial city tour. In addition, walking tours and day trips to various parts of the Dominican Republic are also scheduled.

| Location & Housing |
|
Lodging and housing are arranged by director and accommodations are double room occupancies in various hotels & retreat houses. Students will enjoy meals prepared and provided in Dominican style.
