Coursework focuses on the cultural and linguistic diversity of the peoples of Belize, the concept of the Re- Imagined Mayan Community, pre & post first contact, and political & economic conditions in Belize today.

Coursework involves fieldwork and daily lectures and discussions for a total of 6 URI credits; 3 credits for APG 310 (Problems in Anthropology); and 3 credits for APG 470 (Independent Study: Directed Study or Research).

| Student Life |
|
Students will enjoy taking part in visits to the local artisans and outlying Mayan villages and archaeological sites. There are numerous social activities that students can participate in including tropical rain forest and nature preserve visits and historic town tours.

| Location & Housing |
|
Accommodations are in a lodge overlooking the town of San Ignacio. Rooms are double occupancy and classes and meals are provided in an open-air veranda.
